Open air exhibition - Series 'White Noise'
In literature and art, snow often symbolizes silence, stillness, or a white veil that slows the world down. Shown in summer, however, snow is no longer a symbol of calm—it becomes a disruption, a gentle disturbance. Seasons organize our time and offer reassurance. When something appears out of season, the rhythm we rely on shifts. Seasons lose their predictability, and what seems stable suddenly appears fragile.
This series explores time thrown off balance. By presenting White Noise deliberately during summer, Nele Van Canneyt confronts us with this disruption in summer—a slow awareness that seasons can be unsettled. Perhaps such disruption also reflects how we perceive: how strongly we cling to familiar patterns and recurring phenomena at fixed times. The images in White Noise were created in Belgium, Scandinavia, and the USA.
This series 'White noise' will be presented at Fotofest by organisator Gafodi at the free open-air exhibition Gavere, next to the series of participating artists Lieve Blancquaert, Michiel Hendryckx, Bart Heirweg, Ludwig Desmet, Pieter Clicteur, Frank Raes.
This summer on view from June 12 till August 30, 2026 -Egmont Park, Gavere – (Park WZC Mariahuis)
